Roberto was born in Mexico City, Mexico, and immigrated to the United States when he was seven years old. Roberto earned his Bachelor’s degree from U.C. Berkeley and graduated from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1998. During his 24 year career as a public defender in San Francisco, Roberto has represented thousands of clients in all types of cases, from misdemeanors to serious felonies and homicides. Before joining the Mental Health Unit in 2020, Roberto had extensive experience working in various specialty courts, including Veteran’s Court, Behavioral Health Court, Community Justice Center, Drug Court, and Parole Court. Roberto is fluent in Spanish and proudly lives in San Francisco.
