Volunteer Attorney Program (VAP) test

For almost two decades, the Volunteer Attorney Program (VAP) has provided private and corporate attorneys with the opportunity to represent clients in an environment where freedom – not money is at stake.

Like our Internship Program, VAP is only suitable for individuals already committed to public interest, social justice work and the de-criminalization of poverty, racism, mental illness and addiction.

VAP Defenders receive training in criminal law and join our Misdemeanor Attorneys, representing their own set of clients at all stages of the client’s legal defense – including jury trials. The program is suited for attorneys who want to gain practical lawyering experience, camaraderie from a dynamic misdemeanor team, in-house training and real-world criminal defense social justice work.

Participation requires a full-time, forty (40) hours per week, in-person commitment for a minimum of four (4) months.
